Visual Communication
Communication Design Hub,
NUS DID, 2023–2024

The Communication Design Hub operates as a creative hub extension from the Division of Industrial Design, with the goal of designing communication solutions for the NUS community.

As a designer under the Hub, I contributed in creating small-scale materials such as physical and interactive brochures, to large-scale materials such as wayfinding signages and event banners. It was an invaluable experience where I learned how to boldly take creative directions while utilising the university’s academic branding and language.

Campus Self-Guided Tour

An interactive, mobile brochure for visitors who are doing a self-guided tour of the College of Design and Engineering. With tourists and prospective students visiting during non-outreach periods, the CDE Communications Team had proposed a digital campus guide to engage visitors during that period.

I focused on designing a user-friendly brochure, with a clear wayfinding system, for visitors to find their way around CDE with ease, while learning more information on the key campus locations.

Check out the brochure here.

Open House Wayfinding Signage

During open houses, the CDE Outreach team had noted that visitors found pick-up points and building locations difficult to identify, as the original building signages were meant to be viewed from roads further away, but within a closer walking radius.

Their brief for the Hub was to create 2 main identification signages, which can be utilised during the annual open houses.

The signages were designed to be identifiable even with crowds in the pickup points. References to the architectural features of the building were integrated in the sign to create a stronger connection with the name of the building and the surroundings.

Design Open Day Exhibit Banners

Design Open Day was a seminar trade show for professionals seeking to network with esteemed professors and award-winning designers.

I expanded on the visual branding of the Division of Industrial Design for other university groups participating, while creating a unified corporate identity for the show through the pull-up banners that were displayed at booths.

Masters of Design in Integrated Design Communication Materials

The Masters of Design postgraduate programme was recently launched under the Division of Industrial Design. I was briefed to create social media outreach materials to engage prospective graduates and design professionals. I expanded on the Division’s branding, while emphasising on its industry-focused visual identity to differentiate from the undergraduate programme.

MDes Design Leadership Workbook

I designed the covers and content layout of the workbooks series used by students during the pilot launch of the Design Leadership module.

The covers were inspired by the introduction stories for each workbook, while conveying the message of a hopeful, ambitious future and realising one’s potential of being a leader.
